Robert J. Lamb's Bio

Robert James Lamb, Assistant Director of Production for MidAm International, is recognized for his work as a bass-baritone, conductor, composer, and administrator. His wide-ranging career has led him to collaborate with renowned orchestras and conductors on some of the world’s most prestigious stages. 

A longtime member of the Philadelphia Orchestra Symphonic Choir, Robert has performed extensively under Music and Artistic Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Choral Director Joe Miller at the Kimmel Center, Mann Center, and Carnegie Hall. Over the course of his career, he has amassed over seventy performances with leading orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and the New England Symphonic Ensemble. Recent repertoire includes masterworks such as Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Brahms’ Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Verdi’s Requiem, Bruckner’s Te Deum, and Mozart’s Requiem. Along the way, he has worked with distinguished conductors including Riccardo Muti, Sir Simon Rattle, Nathalie Stutzmann, James Newton Howard, Manfred Honeck, Donald Palumbo, Jane Glover, Jeannette Sorrell, Cristian Măcelaru, and Xian Zhang. 

Beyond the concert stage, Robert appears as a featured chorus member in Netflix’s Oscar-nominated film Maestro (2023), directed by Bradley Cooper. His performance is captured on the GRAMMY-winning soundtrack (Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media), and in 2024, he joined the New York Philharmonic for the live celebration Orchestrating Maestro: Music and Conversation.

A respected leader in the handbell community, Robert has served as a conductor and church musician throughout the New York City, Princeton, and Philadelphia areas, most recently directing the handbell program at Nassau Presbyterian Church in Princeton, NJ. He has also shaped the handbell industry nationally through his tenure at Malmark Bellcraftsmen, Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of handbells, where he held leadership roles in production, sales, and marketing. Robert has appeared as a presenter and guest conductor at major handbell festivals nationwide, including the International Handbell Symposium, MidCarolinas Handbell Festival, Montreat Conferences on Music and Worship, and the Handbell Musicians of America (HMA) National Seminars.

As a published composer, Robert’s works, frequently described as dramatic and expressive, have been released through Beckenhorst Press, the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, and From the Top Music.
