Candace Wicke's Bio
Hailed as a “true maestro,” conductor Candace Wicke made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2002. As a champion of new music, Dr. Wicke has premiered new works in many of her Carnegie Hall appearances and venues around the world. Featured as conductor in the nationwide PBS documentary broadcast of Requiem for my Mother, the recording of this work, conducted by Wicke, spent eight weeks on Billboard’s Top Ten charts, received a Hollywood Media & Music Award and an IMA nomination.
Sharing the stage with the likes of the Vienna Philharmonic, Christoph Eschenbach and Helmuth Rilling, Wicke’s conducting collaborations include Sir John Rutter, Mario Papadopoulos, Francis Bardot, Rengim Gökmen and many other conductors of note. Dr. Wicke served as Chorus Master for the world premiere of Disney Theatrical’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame at The Paper Mill Playhouse as well as Music Conductor for Disney’s the Lion King Live movie launch in New Jersey. Wicke has prepared choruses and toured with international artists including Andre Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall and the Turksoy Orchestra in Lincoln Center and the Music Center at Strathmore. In addition to The Continuo Arts Symphonic Orchestra, Dr. Wicke’s orchestral conducting experience includes the Prague Philharmonic, The Roma Sinfonia, The New England Symphonic Ensemble, The Pan European Philharmonia Symphony Orchestra and others. She conducted the United States representative Wind Ensemble at the Taipei Presidential Inauguration and was the first American to conduct a US ensemble in concert inside the Sistine Chapel.
In addition to multiple Carnegie Hall and Vatican City appearances, Dr. Wicke has been a featured conductor on the Festival Internazionale Di Musica with performances in the Duomo di Milano, Florence, Rome, and by special invitation at the Doria Pamphilji Palace; the Festival of the Agean in Greece, and the first woman conductor on the prestigious Festival Internazionale pro Musica e Arte Sacre. Internationally acclaimed, Wicke has conducted in Vienna, Syros, Athens, Budapest, Melk, Paris, Lourdes, Dublin, Limerick, Prague and multiple venues in Italy, France and Australia. Dr. Wicke has been included on the programs of the Global International Women’s Summit, Musica Mundi International, Legatus International and the Miami Civic Association Artist Debut. Founder of The Continuo Arts Foundation, Wicke has reached and continues to influence thousands of lives with ten intergenerational choral ensembles, the New Jersey conservatory of music, opera and musical theater programs. She is the recipient of New Jersey’s Women of Excellence in Arts & Humanities Award Winner, has received Congressional recognition for her dedication and excellence in Arts & Humanities, and honored as the Distinguished Alumni of the Year at Evangel University.
