MidAmerica Productions Announces June Concerts in Isaac Stern Auditorium
Highlights include the American Premiere of Sergey Taneyev's opera Agamemnon,
Wednesday, June 16, at 7 pm
New York, NY - Peter Tiboris, General Director and Artistic Director of MidAmerica Productions, announces
that the company's June 2004 offerings will take place from Monday, June 7, through Sunday, June 27, 2004,
in Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. Most programs will feature MidAmerica's resident orchestra, the
New England Symphonic Ensemble (Virginia-Gene Rittenhouse, Music Director).
Monday June 7, 8pm
MidAmerica Productions's Ensemble Spotlight features Carol Nelson leading the McCallum High School Band (TX).
On the same program, John Paul Johnson directs the New England Symphonic Ensemble (Virginia-Gene Rittenhouse,
Music Director), choruses from Kansas and Texas; soprano Diane Thornton; and baritone Edward Pleasant in
Duruflés' Requiem. John Leavitt concludes the program, directing choruses from Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana,
Texas, and the NESE in his Requiem.
Sunday, June 13, 2pm
Conductor Timothy Sharp leads the New England Symphonic Ensemble (Virginia-Gene Rittenhouse, Music
Director), choruses from throughout the United States, the Rhodes Singers (TN), and the Rhodes Chorale
(TN) in an "All-Lauridsen" program. The program includes: O Magnum Mysterium, Lux Aeterna; Madrigali,
Mid-Winter Songs, and Les Chansons des Roses. Born in Colfax, Washington, Mr. Morten Lauridsen is one of
the most frequently performed American composers.
Tuesday, June 15, 8pm
Noted conductor/composer John Rutter returns to Carnegie Hall to lead the New England Symphonic
Ensemble (Virginia-Gene Rittenhouse, Music Director), and choruses from throughout the country in
Haydn's The Creation. Soloists include: soprano Amy van Roekel, tenor Rockland Osgood, and bass
Philip Cokorinos.
Wednesday, June 16, 7 pm
Conductor Peter Tiboris, MidAmerica Productions's General Director and Artistic Director, leads the
American premiere of Sergey Taneyev's (1856-1915) opera Agamemnon, a concert performance of the
original Russian libretto by A. Wenkstern, with English supertitles. The concert performance,
under the baton of Mr. Tiboris, brings together mezzo Nina Terentieva (Clytemnestra), bass Stefan
Szkafarowsky (Agamemnon), soprano Angela Brown (Cassandra), baritone Peter Lightfoot (Aegisthus),
and bass Mark Risinger (Watchman). Agamemnon also features Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis
(Clytemnestra) and Louis Zorich (Agamemnon) in the selected speaking roles of a translation by
P.W. Meineck; members of the Aquila Theatre Company; the Russian Chamber Chorus of New York,
Nikolai Kachanov, director; and the Connecticut and New Jersey Choral Societies of New York,
John Liepold and Terre Johnson, directors. (Tickets to Agamemnon are $ 125, 85, 50, & 35).

Janet Galvan leads the Tenth Annual North American Children's Chorale and the New England
Symphonic Ensemble (Virginia-Gene Rittenhouse, Music Director), in works by Vivaldi, Clausen,
Thompson, Bernstein, and McClure. On the same program, the Ensemble Spotlight Series features
Iris Lamanna leading the Contra Costa Children's Chorus (CA) and Mei-Ann Chen leading the
Portland Youth Philharmonic (OR).
