MidAmerica Productions Announces May 2004 Offerings at Carnegie Hall's Isaac Stern Auditorium

New York, NY - Peter Tiboris, General Director and Artistic Director of MidAmerica Productions, announces that the company's May 2004 offerings will occur from Sunday, May 2, through Monday, May 31, 2004 (Memorial Day), in Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. Most programs will feature MidAmerica's resident orchestra, the New England Symphonic Ensemble (Virginia-Gene Rittenhouse, Music Director).

Sunday, May 2, 8:30 p.m. From Atlanta, Georgia, S. Bryan Priddy leads choruses from the Northeast and Southeast, and soloists Adrienne Danrich, soprano; Keith Jameson, tenor; and Michael Chioldi, baritone; in Handel's Coronation Anthem No. 1 ("Zadok the Priest"), and Schubert's Mass No. 2 in G major, D. 167. On the same program, Len L. Riccinto directs mezzo-soprano Mary Ann Stewart, soloists (mentioned above), and choral groups from Michigan and New Jersey in Beethoven's Mass in C major.

Sunday, May 23, 8:30 p.m. Solveig Holmquist returns to Isaac Stern Auditorium, leading choruses from California and Oregon, and sopranos Eteri Lamoris and Ellie Dehn; mezzo-soprano, Tihana Herceg; tenor Sean Fallen; and bass Ken Benson in Bach's Magnificat. Ken Fulton assumes the podium, conducting groups from Louisiana, New Jersey, and New York in Haydn's Mass in Time of War. Soloists for this portion of the program are soprano Eteri Lamoris, mezzo-soprano Tihana Herceg, tenor Sean Fallen, and bass Ken Benson.

Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, May 29, 8:00 p.m. MidAmerica's Ensemble Spotlight Series features Gregory P. Rochford leading Chaparral Middle School and Eighth Grade Orchestra (CA), Steve Acciani conducting South Pointe Middle School Band (CA), and Ami Lorenzen directing Suzanne Middle School Orchestra (CA).

Memorial Day Weekend, Sunday, May 30, 8:00 p.m. Timothy Peter leads groups from throughout the United States, soprano Dana Beth Miller, and baritone Darrell Babidge in Faure's Requiem. On the same program, H. Robert Reynolds leads the Seventh Annual National Wind Ensemble in works by Bach/Goldman, Bach/Caillet, Freund, Nixon, and Von Weber/Weait. The Ensemble Spotlight portion of the program features Amir Katz, leading the Albuquerque Youth Symphony (NM).

Monday, Memorial Day, May 31, 8:00 p.m. Noted conductor/composer John Rutter rounds out MidAmerica Productions's offerings for May. Maestro Rutter will lead groups from throughout the country and soprano Eglise Gutierrez, mezzo Rosalie Sulivan, tenor Michael Sommese, and bass Jason Hardy in Mozart's Requiem and the Rutter Requiem.

Saturday, April 24, 2004, at 2:00 pm Ilya Grubert, violin, and Heasook Rhee, piano, interpret Tchaikovsky's "Meditation" from Souvenir d'un lieu cher, Op. 42 and Waltz-Scherzo, Op. 34; Prokofiev's Sonata No. 1 in F minor for violin and piano, Op. 80; and Franck's Sonata in A major for violin and piano.

Sunday, April 25, 2004, at 8:30 pm Richard Amoroso, violin, and Sheri Segal-Melcher, piano, perform Bach's Sonata No. 1 in G minor for unaccompanied violin; Copland's Sonata for violin and piano; Prokofiev's Sonata for violin and piano, No. 2 in D major, Op. 94b; Ravel's Tsigane; and three short selections by Gershwin (arr. by Jacsha Heifetz), including: "Second Prelude," "My Man's Gone Now," and "It Ain't Necessarily So."

Monday, April 26, 2004, at 8:00 pm Cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton, in her Weill Recital Hall debut, and pianist David Oei take center stage, performing "Prayer" (trad. arr. by Sonia Wieder-Atherton); "Hassidic song" (trad. arr. by Sonia Wieder-Atherton); Rachmaninov's Sonata in G minor for cello and piano, Op. 19; H. Dutilleux's Trois strophes sur le nom de Sacher; Liszt's La lugubre gondola for cello and piano; and Britten's Sonata in C major for cello and piano, Op. 65.

Sunday, May 2, 2004, at 8:30 pm Mihai Craioveanu, violin, with Irina Kats, piano, interpret Leclair's Sonata in D major for violin and piano; Grieg's Sonata in C minor for violin and piano, Op. 45; selections from Faust (arr. Wieniawski), by Gounod; selections from La Traviata (arr. Olivier-Dupin), by Verdi; selections from Carmen (arr. Sarasate), by Bizet; selections from Porgy and Bess (arr. Heifetz), by Gershwin; and selections from The Barber of Seville (arr. Castelnuovo Tedesco), by Rossini.

Saturday, May 22, 2004, at 2:00 pm Flutist Cheryl Gobbetti Hoffman with Tony Arnold, soprano, Jonathan Golove, cello, and Jacob Greenberg, piano, interpret Carter's Enchanted Preludes for flute and violoncello; Berio's Sequenza III for woman's voice; Golove's Trio for soprano, flute, and cello; Boulez's Sonatine for flute and piano; Jolivet's Cinq Incantations for solo flute; and Ravel's Chansons Madecasses for voice, cello, and piano.

Sunday, May 23, 2004, at 8:30 pm Astral Artists: Castelli Newman Zhu Piano Trio rounds out MidAmerica's spring/summer chamber music offerings in Weill Recital Hall. The trio, featuring Christina Castelli, violin, Clancy Newman, cello, and Natalie Zhu, piano, makes its Weill Recital Hall debut, performing Clancy Newman's Sonata for cello and piano; R. Strauss' Sonata in E-flat major for violin and piano, Op. 18; and Arensky's Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 32.
