Giuseppe Cataldo, a native of Palermo, Italy, is the new artistic director of the International Festival “Settimana di Musica Sacra” of Monreale (Palermo) for 2011-13. He was artistic director of The Sicilian Symphonic Orchestra from 1998-2001 and 2008-2009. He was also music advisor and artistic director of all cultural activities for the Municipality of Palermo during the 2001 season. As a conductor, he has led the Munchner Symphoniker, Israel Symphony, Prague Philarmonic, Singapore Symphony, Sicilian Symphonic, Hamilton Philarmonic, Thessalonik Symphony, Puerto Rico Symphony, Kosice Philharmonic, Radio Bratislava Symphony, Slovenian Philharmonic, Aachen Symphony, Mexico State's Symphony, Izmir Symphony, Bilkent Symphony, Hradex Kralovè Philarmonic, Mexico City's Bellas Artes Symphony, and Honolulu Symphony orchestras. He has also guest conducted abroad for West Palm Beach Opera, Opera Theatre Massimo Bellini of Catania, Prague State Opera, Brasilia’s National Opera Theatre, and Cordoba Opera Theatre. In Italy he has guest conducted for Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Theatre, International Piano Festival "Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli" of Bergamo and Brescia, Sicilian Symphonic Orchestra, Orchestras of Sanremo, Orchestra of the The Tivoli Festival, Orchestra of Emilia Romagna Festival, Symphonic Orchestra of Rome, and the Italian Youth Orchestra. His studies included composition, choral conducting, symphonic-operating conducting and percussion instruments. Since 1990 he has served as music professor for The Conservatory of Music "V. Bellini" of Palermo. In opera, he specializes in conducting works byRossini, Donizetti, Verdi, and Puccini.
